Women’s tennis bounced back for a satisfying team win at home.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Facing yet another ranked opponent within the current Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) standings, Wake Forest women's tennis (9-4, 1-1) showed out as a whole on Sunday afternoon (March 6), taking down No. 54 Florida State (6-5, 1-3) in a 6-1 decision.
With only two doubles matchups occurring due to the Seminoles' limited roster, Wake Forest secured the first point before picking up four more individual wins throughout singles play. Another point was added due to a forfeited solo match.
The win was Wake Forest's first in ACC play this season, along with being the first match victory over Florida State since 2017. Additionally, it was the Demon Deacons' second season win against a nationally-ranked foe.
Senior standout Anna Brylin continued to shine in her solo play, upping her singles record to 9-1.
Samantha Martinelli has been on a tear as well, having won seven straight singles matches.

From the Head Honcho
"It was a good bounce back win today," said head coach Jeff Wyshner. "Florida State is always tough. With them being down a player, you worry that you might be a bit flat, but we put forth a solid effort in every spot. Now, we have to get ready for conference road matches the rest of this month. So, we are hopefully starting to play our best tennis thus far. Today, it looked like we might be on that path."
Up Next
Wake Forest will prepare for a major early week test at No. 2 NC State, visiting the Wolfpack on Tuesday (March 6).
