The Deacs went for their 13th season win in Blacksburg.

BLACKSBURG, VA – Wrapping its weekend tilt and final regular-season road trip, Wake Forest women's tennis defeated Virginia Tech (6-14, 2-9) on Sunday (April 10) in the Hokies' home finale, 5-2.

The day was a notable one for the Demon Deacons' (13-9, 5-6) head coach, Jeff Wyshner, who picked up his 150th win in 12 seasons with the Black and Old Gold.

Wake Forest's current 13 wins this spring is its most since the 2018-19 season, as Sunday's feat also clinched a winning record for the Deacs' regular season play.

Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth gave up only one game in their doubles victory, now sitting at an 11-5 record.

In singles, Brylin moved to a 13-6 record, tied with Samantha Martinelli and Casie Wooten for most solo wins on the team.

The loss was Virginia Tech's third straight.

How it Happened

  • As duo play unfolded, No. 13 Anna Brylin/Brooke Killingsworth built up a 3-1 lead in first doubles.

  • A Deacon pairing of Carolyn Campana and Mia Ahmad won its first two games.

  • Three more consecutive games went to the way of Brylin and Killingsworth, giving the duo its second win of the weekend.

  • Campana and Ahmad brought doubles action to an end on their far court, finishing in a noteworthy 6-2 mark.

  • Samantha Martinelli and Peyton Pesavento's match was left unfinished in second doubles, trailing 5-4.

  • Each of the Campana sisters, Anna and Carolyn, started hot in singles, taking three straight games.

    • Both players ended up winning their first sets in 6-1 decisions.

  • Saby Nihalani also ended her opening set in a winning fashion, 6-3.

  • Brylin rounded out the quartet of Deacs to secure a first-set victory.

  • Nihalani went untouched in her second frame, ending sixth singles in a sweep to bump up Wake Forest's lead, 2-0.

  • The Deacons' advantage was stretched to 3-0 when Carolyn Campana concluded play on court one in two sets.

  • Soon afterward, Anna Campana delivered the clinch for Wake Forest in second singles, 4-0.

  • Virginia Tech notched wins on courts four and five.

  • Holding down the last solo ongoing matchup, Brylin went into a third set.

    • The senior held on through lasting rallies for a 10-8 finish.

  • Wake Forest defeated Virginia Tech, 5-2.

From the Head Honcho

"It was a good win today," said head coach Jeff Wyshner. "Being able to secure a winning regular-season record is one step towards making the NCAA tournament. We had a good effort in doubles with quick work from 1 and 3. Additionally, Saby, Carolyn, and Anna (Campana) left no doubt about the result by playing so well in singles. I am looking forward to one more regular-season weekend at home. We have two big matches coming up, with the second being 'Senior Day.'
