
Wake Forest Leads Field After First Day of ACC Championships

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team sits in a tie for the top spot after the first 36 holes of stroke play. The top four teams after Friday's final round of stroke play will advance to the match play semifinals on Saturday.
Wake Forest was second in scoring on par three's and par four's and led the field in scoring on par five holes. They led the field with 130 total birdies over the first two rounds and recorded 26 birdies. Sophomore Mimi Rhodes was second in the field with 29 pars over her 36 holes.
With the second-lowest team score of the day in the second round, the Deacs were paced by Rachel Kuehn and Virunpat Olankitkunchai, who both finished the 36-hole day three under par in a tie for fourth place. Kuehn went 70-71 in round one and two and Olankitkunchai went 71-70.
Lauren Walsh is right behind her teammates, as she shot five under par in her second round to finish the day two under par in a tie for sixth place. After shooting three over in the windy conditions of the first round, Walsh found her swing in the second round. After a bogey on her third hole of the round, she recorded three birdies in a row to go into the turn two under. She recorded three more birdies on her final nine holes of the day to finish with her lowest 18-hole round of the year, a five-under par 67.
Mimi Rhodes concluded her first day of ACC Championship play at even par and in a tie for 14th. She started the day with a one-under 71 on her first 18 holes and finished with a one-over 73 on her second 18. In her first postseason experience, freshman Carolina Chacarra battled arm pain throughout the day and finished T45 after 36 holes.
Third Round
Friday's third and final round of stroke play will begin at 9:00 a.m. Wake Forest tee times will begin at 9:50 in 10-minute intervals off the first tee. The Deacs will be paired with Florida State and Duke.
