Demon Deacons Earn Top Seed to Start Match Play

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team has earned the top seed for Saturday's match play semifinals against four-seeded Virginia after finishing at the top of the field on Friday during the stroke play portion.
The Deacs continued to lead the field in scoring on par fives and were second in scoring on par three and fours. The team was second in the field with 189 pars over three rounds of stroke play and tallied 36 birdies. Sophomore Mimi Rhodes was second in the field in scoring on par threes and led the field with 42 total pars.
Graduate transfer Virunpat Olankitkunchai had a perfect first 10 holes of the day, recording even par one each one. A birdie on the par-three 12th helped her maintain position inside the top five. She finished the day two over for the round and one under for the stroke play portion. Her score of 215 earned her third-place medalist honors.
Junior Lauren Walsh recorded three birdies in her third round, the most of any Deac on the final 18, and also finished with a 54-hole score of 215 to earn third-place medalist honors next to Olankitkunchai. After a bogey on 11, she birdied par-fives 13 and 18 to finish the day one over par and one under total.
Rachel Kuehn finished seventh as the only player in the field to finish at even par. Mimi Rhodes rounded out the Deacs inside the top 20, coming in at T16 with a total score of four over 220. Freshman Carolina Chacarra had her best round on Friday. Birdies on 10 and 18 brought her to two over for the day after making the turn at four over. Her total score of 228 put her T35 on the individual leaderboard.
Semifinals
The Deacs will face Virginia in match play on Saturday morning with tee times beginning at 8:50 a.m. in 10-minute intervals off the first tee. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat and a live stream will be available via ACC Network Extra.

"We kept a similar strategy, and the team handled the changing winds really well and had great course management today. We earned the top seed, that helped us tremendously in setting up tomorrow's matches, which is what we wanted.
