The sophomore is one of two pitchers in the ACC with seven wins and ranks in the top 10 in the ACC in ERA and strikeouts.
LUBBOCK, Texas- Sophomore Rhett Lowder was named to the 2022 Pitcher of the Year Watch List, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation this week.
Lowder was one of 67 pitchers selected to the midseason list for the annual award given to the nation's top arm. The Albemarle, N.C. native is the first Demon Deacon to be tabbed since Griffin Roberts and Colin Peluse in 2018.
Lowder heads into Wake Forest's weekend series against Notre Dame tied for the conference lead in victories (seven) while sitting second in the ACC with a 1.96 ERA. Lowder has fanned 61 batters, good for sixth in the conference, compared to just 16 walks.
In six of his nine starts this season, Lowder has pitched at least six innings while allowing no more than three earned runs in any appearance.
Lowder is coming off the best start of his Demon Deacon career as the sophomore tossed a career-high eight scoreless innings with a career-high tying 11 strikeouts. The right-hander allowed a season-low tying three hits across his career-long day while walking one batter, the fourth time this season the Albemarle, N.C. native conceded one walk or less.
After tallying the third-most strikeouts by a freshman (78) in Wake Forest history last season, Lowder needs just 11 more punchouts to reach 150 career Ks.
The award, sponsored by Diamond, will be presented this summer by the CBF.
