Anna Campana came in the clutch for the Deacs on Friday evening.
ROME, GA – Stepping into its first test of the postseason, No. 7-seeded Wake Forest women's tennis wasted zero time in initiating a stellar start in the second round of the 2022 ACC Tennis Championships, defeating No. 10-seeded Syracuse (10-11) in a 4-1 finish on Thursday evening (April 21).
Wake Forest will move on to play No. 2-seeded Duke in the quarterfinals on Friday (April 22) at 6 p.m.
The win over the Orange, which stands at No. 59 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings, was the Demon Deacons' (16-9) sixth team win over a ranked opponent this season.
Additionally, Wake Forest mirrored a feat from last spring when the team took down Syracuse in its first matchup of the 2021 ACC Championships.
The Deacs have now advanced past their first match of the ACC Championships in each of the last six seasons.
Junior Anna Campana, who delivered the clinch for her Deacons, is now on a four-match winning streak in singles play.
No. 7 Anna Brylin/Brooke Killingsworth and No. 34 Samantha Martinelli/Casie Wooten grabbed their fifth and fourth ranked doubles wins, respectively.

From the Head Honcho
"It was a good first match at the ACC's," said head coach Jeff Wyshner. "Our doubles pairs did a great job in setting the tone. While Syracuse was much healthier and consistently better than when we saw them a month ago, we played well in singles too. Our group is looking forward to the next match - we just have to take them one at a time around this time of the year."
