The program's 19 titles are the most by any ACC team.

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The No. 15 Wake Forest men's golf team won the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in dramatic fashion on Monday afternoon, defeating No. 11 Georgia Tech 3-2 in extra holes.

This is the first ACC title for head coach Jerry Haas and the first ACC title for the men's golf program since 1989. It is also just the fourth time in Atlantic Coast Conference history that the women's and men's Championship was won by the same school. The women's golf team defeated Florida State 3-1-1 last week for their second title in four years.

After junior Mark Power fell in the opening match of the day, fifth-year senior Parker Gillam won his match to put the first point on the board for the Deacs. Gillam went into the 18th hole one up and won the hole to seal the match two up.

Freshman Scotty Kennon dropped his match, but sophomore Michael Brennan came in clutch on the 18th green for the third day in a row. Brennan was all square in his match heading to the 18-tee box. A birdie putt for Brennan and par for his opponent gave him the win to tie the match 2-2 with one match still in play.

As the lone match left in the field, Alex Fitzpatrick stepped on the 18th tee box all square. Pars for both players left the match tied at 18 and sent the pair back to the first tee box for extra holes. After remaining all square after the first two holes, Fitzpatrick won his match on the 21st hole with par, clinching the Deacs' 19th ACC title in program history.

From Coach Haas
"What an incredible feeling. I'm so happy for these players. You know, they had the highest team GPA on campus last year. They're good kids, they listen, you know. They're all telling me 'This one's for you, coach.' In some ways, I feel it, but no, they do all the work. Coach Aaron has been here now for years, and he's really made our program one of the elite in the country. He points out the things they need to get better at. We have young men that want to be pro golfers and it's hard to do it all, but they do it and they do it well. It's so, so great. I had probably 85 texts yesterday when we made it to the finals. I'll probably have 380 today. My phone has been buzzing in my pocket, so I'll get to it this week. I tried to answer everybody. I know Coach Haddock would be very happy for us. Go Deacs baby!"

From Alex Fitzpatrick
"Just shivers down my spine, goosebumps, the excitement, knowing that my whole team, the coaches, the support was just amazing. I couldn't be happier to get it done for Wake Forest. It's an incredible achievement and one I'll never forget. This is something we've worked towards for years now. The first three years we didn't get it done, but knowing that at the end of this year, I'll be leaving, and we've got an ACC championship is just an amazing thing. I'm very, very happy to have a fantastic team where we all get along. Everyone's great. It's just been an amazing time."
