Wake Forest Finishes Ahead of Four Top-25 Teams at Calusa Cup

The Demon Deacons placed third in the event, finishing ahead of No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 8 Georgia, No. 22 Clemson and No. 23 Purdue.
NAPLES, Fla. -- With play being suspended during the second round of the Calusa Cup on Monday, the No. 17 Wake Forest men's golf team completed the final two rounds on Tuesday in Naples, Fla.
The Demon Deacons finished ahead of four top-25 teams and placed third in the event with a three-round score of 868 (+4). The Deacs finished ahead of No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 8 Georgia, No. 22 Clemson and No. 23 Purdue on the leaderboard.
Wake Forest was led by sophomore Michael Brennan, who currently sits at No. 16 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The Leesburg, Va. native completed his eighth career top-five finish in just 18 career collegiate events.
Brennan started the day by closing out his strong second round. He was 6-under-par and climbed to the top of the leaderboard at 8-under-par at that point. Brennan finished the day and the event in third, carding a three-round score of 4-under-par.
Three other Demon Deacons finished inside of the top 25 on the leaderboard with senior Parker Gillam joining Brennan inside of the top 10.
Gillam, who finished eighth on the individual leaderboard, climbed into the top 10 with the help of a second round 68 (-4) and ended the tournament at even par.
Sophomore Clay Stirsman (+7) and junior Mark Power (+8) also posted top-25 finish with Stirsman placing 24th in his first career appearance in the starting five while Power tied for 25th at Calusa Pines Golf Club.

The No. 17 Demon Deacons are off until the end of the month when Wake Forest is set to take part in the ACC Championships at Shark's Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, Fla.
