Wake Forest Trio Advances to Round of 16 in NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 61 Wake Forest men's tennis senior Eduardo Nava advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship with a gritty win over No. 23 Alex Reco of Arkansas. Siddhant Banthia and Jakob Schnaitter advanced to the Round of 16 in the Doubles Championship thanks to the duo's upset win over the nation's No. 7 pair from USC.
In singles, Nava got off to a tough start on the day, earning an early break back to go up 4-3. The senior then hit a tough patch, losing in the first set tiebreak. He refused to give in, finally righting his game to win the second set 6-4.The third set was all Nava as he earned a few early breaks and defeated Reco, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Nava is the ninth singles player in Wake Forest history to advance to the singles Round of 16.
In the day's doubles match, Banthia and Schnaitter dropped the first set 6-3. The duo battled back, earning a tiebreaker win to force a third set against No. 7 Bradley Frye and Stefan Dostanic of USC. The Demon Deacon duo powered through the No. 7 duo in the nation with a 10-5 in the 10-point breaker.
The Demon Deacons' appearance in the doubles Round of 16 is the furthest a Wake Forest doubles pair has been since 2017 and it is the ninth doubles to reach the sweet 16 in program history.
