
Tinsman Named Semifinalist for Buster Posey Award

The redshirt junior was one of 16 semifinalists selected for the prestigious award given to the nation’s top Division-I collegiate catcher.
WICHITA, Kansas – Redshirt junior Brendan Tinsman was named a semifinalist for the 2022 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, as announced by the Greater Wichita Sports Commission.
Tinsman was one of 16 semifinalists selected for the prestigious award given annually to the nation's top Division-I collegiate catcher. Additionally, he is one of just three backstops in the ACC to be named a semifinalist.
The Cape Elizabeth, Maine native has posted his best collegiate season in 2022, receiving Third Team All-ACC honors. Tinsman has career highs in average (.348), hits (79), doubles (13), home runs (22), RBIs (61) and slugging percentage (.696).
Currently, Tinsman is fourth in the ACC and eighth in the country in long flies, while ranking fifth in total bases, sixth in hits and eighth in slugging percentage.
Tinsman's 22 home runs are the second most by a Demon Deacon in a single season and sit just three away from a program record.
Defensively, Tinsman has been just as impressive. After the opening day of the ACC Tournament, Tinsman has thrown out 12 base runners, tied for an ACC lead.
Overall, Tinsman's .996 fielding percentage ranks second in the ACC.
Semifinalists for the award must be the starting catcher for their team in 70% of the games, their batting average must be above .200 and have a minimum of 120 at bats.
Ballots will be sent to the national voting committee at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 7, 2022. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced on June 29, 2022.
