SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The No. 16 Wake Forest men's golf team began play at the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club Friday.
The Demon Deacons had four players sitting even par as the day started. Scotty Kennon led the way with two birdies before the turn, going into his 10th hole at two-under and tied for the individual lead. He finished his round with a birdie on the 468-yard, par-four ninth hole.
Clay Stirsman also recorded two birdies on his first nine as he and Mark Power each sank one on the 468-yard, par four 12th hole.
Michael Brennan ended his round on a high note with his first birdie of the day on the par-three 188-yard eighth hole.
Saturday's second round will begin at 9:10 a.m. ET. Wake Forest will tee off at 11:00 a.m. ET with Arkansas and Georgia.
From Coach Haas
"We played alright today, we weren't very good around the greens and made too many little mistakes. The greens will be a little smoother and softer in the morning so we'll see if we can make up some ground. There's a lot of golf left to play so we will hang in there and battle until the end." – head coach Jerry Haas
