LYTHAM ST. ANNES, ENGLAND – Rising senior Wake Forest men's golfer Mark Power has moved to the match play portion at the 127th Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in England.

The Kilkenny, Ireland native carded the lowest round of the day, firing a 65 (-7) including nine birdies to help rise up to the top of the leaderboard. He finishes the stroke play portion in third and just one stroke off the overall lead.

By virtue of finishing third, Power will automatically advance to the Round of 32 where he will face the winner of Markus Braadlie (Norway) and Jack Buchanan (Australia) with the tee time scheduled for a 7:16 a.m. ET start. Both Buchanan and Braadlie finished stroke play at 1-over-par just one stroke above the cut.

Historic names to win the Amateur Championship include Bobby Jones, Sergio Garcia and José María Olazábal. Additionally, Power could be the second Wake Forest player to win the event as Jay Sigel captured the 1979 Amateur Championship 3&2 in an all Demon Deacon final against Scott Hoch.

A player from Ireland has won the tournament six times in its history with the last coming in 2019.

Power was a key piece to the Demon Deacons postseason success, helping the Demon Deacons capture their 19th conference championship in program history and winning the New Haven NCAA Regional by a program record score of 27-under-par.

He played his best tournament of the season at NCAA Regionals, tying for ninth along at 4-under-par including a round of 67 (-3). Power provided a point in the ACC Championship Semifinal match.

During the regular season, Power notched three top-25 finishes, all coming in the final three events of the regular season. His highest finish of the regular season came at the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2 where he tied for 20th.
