
Fitzpatrick to Make Pro Debut at Irish Open

Alex Fitzpatrick will be joined by rising senior and Ireland native Mark Power in the field this weekend.
THOMASTOWN, Ireland – Wake Forest men's golf alum Alex Fitzpatrick is set to make his professional debut this week at the Horizon Irish Open, starting Thursday at Mount Juliet Estate in Thomastown, Ireland.
After a stellar amateur career where he finished No. 7 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and No. 6 in the PGA Tour University Rankings, Fitzpatrick is set to tee off at 7:40 a.m. ET on Thursday in the 156-player field.
The Sheffield, England native will be playing alongside Scotland's Ewen Ferguson and Spain's Rafa Cabrera-Bello who currently both rank in the top 30 on the European Tour standings heading into the tournament.
The Irish Open also serves as one of the final qualifying events for the Open Championship as three spots are up for grabs in the year's final major championship.
Fitzpatrick finished his historic collegiate career ranked third in program history with a career stroke average of 70.94, just behind current PGA Tour pros Bill Haas and Will Zalatoris. During the 2022 postseason, he provided the clinching point in the Demon Deacons 2022 ACC Championship while also grabbing a point in the Semifinal win. He also claimed a runner-up finish at the NCAA Regionals, ending the week 9-under-par and just one stroke off the lead.
Fitzpatrick will be joined by rising senior and Ireland native Mark Power in the field this weekend. The tournament is just 10 miles away from Power's hometown of Kilkenny, Ireland.
Power is coming off a run in the 122nd Amateur Championship, reaching the Round of 16 before falling to eventual finalist Alex Maguire.
Power was a key piece to the Demon Deacons postseason success, helping the Demon Deacons capture their 19th conference championship in program history and winning the New Haven NCAA Regional by a program record score of 27-under-par. He played his best tournament of the season at NCAA Regionals, tying for ninth along at 4-under-par including a round of 67 (-3). Power provided a point in the ACC Championship Semifinal match.
