PINEHURST, N.C. – Wake Forest women's golfer Emilia Migliaccio has won the 120th Women's North & South Amateur Championship at Pinehurst.
After finishing the first two rounds of stroke play in a tie for 12th with a one-under-par score of 143, Migliaccio and Wake Forest teammate Rachel Kuehn advanced to the round of 32 of the five-day event. Kuehn lost her round of 32 match while Migliaccio advanced all the way to the Championship with scores of 3&2, one up and won in the semifinals one up.
The final match was a contentious one with multiple ties and neither player getting further than one up at a time. Migliaccio was able to pull away at the end and win the match two up on 17. Migliaccio is not the first Demon Deacon to win the prestigious amateur event, Kuehn won the event in 2020.
"This means everything to me," said Migliaccio. "I don't know if I've been as happy about winning a tournament as I am about this one. After everything I've been through in my career, golf-wise, to win in North Carolina means so much."
After taking off the 2021-22 season to focus on beginning graduate school, the 2019 ACC Champion will return to the Demon Deacons squad for the 2022-23 season for her final year of eligibility.
