Demon Deacons Host Georgia Bulldogs in Spry Doubleheader

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's soccer team will play their third of four consecutive home games when they host Georgia Thursday evening at Spry Stadium.
 
Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the match will air on ACC Network Extra.

Thursday's match will be the culmination of a day-long scavenger hunt on campus for Wake Forest students. The five students to find the five flags hidden on campus will redeem their voucher for a special-edition prize pack at the game. There will also be free flags to the first 250 fans. The first 100 students will receive free Chick-Fil-A.

2022 Wake Forest soccer season tickets are on-sale now giving fans the opportunity to witness The Best Fan Experience In North Carolina from a number of unique seating options. New to the ticketing menu this year are five and 10 game FLEX options, giving fans maximum flexibility when choosing which home games to attend. FLEX season ticket members will simply open their digital FLEX account, and add or remove games as they decide which dates they are available to attend. Members may even use multiple admissions for a single game to bring a friend, family member or guest with them. If more FLEX tickets are needed, additional admissions may be purchased through the Wake Forest Ticket Office. FLEX admissions are able to be used for redemption at both men's and women's soccer games.

The Matchup
  • The Demon Deacons come into the weekend with two very good performances under their belt. Last weekend saw them score six goals and concede just one.
    • In addition to the six goals, they have tested the keeper 16 times over the two games and earned 19 corner kicks (9th in the nation).
  • Wake Forest finished 25th in the RPI rankings last season, while Georgia finished 57th.
  • The Deacs lead the series against the Bulldogs, 3-2-3, with their most recent victory coming Aug. 18, 2018, in a 1-0 win at Georgia.
  • The last time Wake Forest faced Georgia was in the spring of 2021 in Athens. The Deacs dropped the exhibition, 4-1.
Parks Picks Up Where She Left Off
  • Coming off an All-American performance in 2021 in which she tallied nine clean sheets, redshirt junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks opened her 2022 campaign with her 13th career shutout.
  • The Upper Marlboro, Md., native recorded two saves against Milwaukee and two more against Rhode Island.
  • Parks was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy preseason watch list, an annual award given to the top collegiate soccer player in the country.
  • She was one of 60 players named to the list and the only goalkeeper from the ACC.
  • Offensively, the Deacs are 21st in the nation, averaging 21.5 shots per game.
Scouting The Bulldogs
  • Georgia is coming off a 3-1 loss to #1 Florida State at home. All four goals were scored in the first half before the Seminoles took control of the game and saw out the two-goal victory.
  • The Bulldogs' lost their leading goal scorer for the 2021 season but brought back the top assister and second leading goal scorer, Dani Murguia. The forward from Texas tallied 11 assists and nine goals during the 2021 campaign. Her 11 assists ranked 16th in the nation.
  • Murguia sparked a dangerous attack, as the Bulldogs finished last season ranked 19th in the nation in goals per-game (2.47) and 22nd in total goals (47).
Looking Ahead
  • Wake Forest will conclude its four-match homestand to open the season on Sunday afternoon, hosting the Auburn Tigers. 
  • Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the match will air on ACC Network Extra.
