The Matchup

  • This will be the second-ever meeting between the Demon Deacons and Falcons with the first showdown coming on Sept. 11, 1992. Wake Forest scored a 1-0 victory in that match.

  • The Demon Deacons opened the 2022 season with a 1-0 victory over UCF on Thursday night while Air Force fell to No. 24 North Carolina 2-1 despite opening the scoring in the fourth minute.

  • Wake Forest will be looking for its NCAA-best 85th home win since the start of the 2015 season on Sunday evening.

  • The match will be the second in a string of three-straight road matches against ranked foes to start the season for Air Force, as the Falcons will travel to face current No. 19 Missouri State next Friday.

Last Time Out

  • Wake Forest opened the 2022 season with a 1-0 victory over a talented UCF squad.

  • After not converting on nine first half shots, the Deacs broke open scoring in the 48th minute as junior Oscar Sears placed a ball into the box for fellow junior Hosei Kijima, who finished off a perfectly timed run to head home his fourth career goal.

  • The assist was the third of Sears' collegiate career while junior Jahlane Forbes also logged an assist for the seventh time as a Demon Deacon.

  • Defensively, the Demon Deacons secured the clean sheet as sophomore Trace Alphin recorded three saves.

  • Freshmen Cooper Flax and Vlad Walent started their collegiate debuts while fellow freshmen Nico Rabiu and Aethan Yohannes along with junior transfer Sidney Paris also made their first regular season appearances for Wake Forest.

  • In total, 21 different Deacs contributed to the victory.

Stout At Spry

  • With a season-opening home victory over UCF on Thursday night, Wake Forest has now won 84 home matches at Spry since the start of the 2015 season.

  • The 84 home victories are most in the country during that span and 18 more than any other program.

  • Dating back to a 4-0 victory over William & Mary last season, Wake Forest has now won eight-straight matches at Spry Stadium and outscored opponents 25-2.

  • Six of those victories have been shutouts.

  • Overall, Wake Forest (116) has won 11 more matches than any other program since the beginning of the 2015 campaign and is joined by only Indiana (105) as programs with more than 100 wins over the last eight seasons.

Scouting the Falcons

  • Air Force is coming off a 10-win season in 2021 in which the Falcons finished tied for second place in the WAC.

  • Highlighted by a 17-win campaign in 2018, the Falcons have earned an NCAA Tournament three times over the last five seasons.

  • The team's backline is anchored by WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year London Aghedo. The Valencia, Calif., native is a two-time first-team All-WAC selection and started all 48 of his appearances for Air Force.

  • Thaddeus Dewing scored Air Force's goal against No. 24 North Carolina on Thursday. He is the Falcons' top returning scorer from a season ago, netting five strikes.

Looking Ahead

  • Wake Forest will make its first road trip of the season next Saturday to face UAB in Birmingham. It will mark the Demon Deacons' first-ever appearance in the state of Alabama.

  • Kick-off is scheduled at 8 p.m. EST and the match will air on ESPN+.
