Six Demon Deacons to be Inducted Into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Six new additions to the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame were announced by Wake Forest Athletics: Cheyenne Woods, Ish Smith, Cory Parr, Nikeya Green, Ron Wellman and Bill Faircloth, who is this year's Heritage Honoree. 

Wellman and Faircloth will officially be inducted on Oct. 21, 2022, while the induction dates for Woods, Smith, Parr and Green will be announced at a later time. 

These six people have impacted Wake Forest with their play, leadership and overall contribution to Wake Forest University and the Winston-Salem community. 

The four former student-athletes and two administrators members have been listed below with just some of their remarkable achievements at Wake Forest.

Cheyenne Woods 

  • Finished her career with the lowest single-season (73.47) and lowest career scoring average (74.31) in school-history

  • Finished more tournaments under-par than any other player in school-history

  • Two-time All-American 

  • Three-time All-ACC honoree

  • Helped lead Wake Forest to the 2011 ACC Championship with a dominating seven-shot victory at the 2011 ACC Championship

Ish Smith

  • First player in school history with 1,000 career points and 600 assists

  • Also the first with 1,000 points, 500 assists and 400 rebounds in a career

  • Concluded his career second all-time in assists with 612 and led the ACC in assists as a freshman

  • Was the first freshman since Muggsy Bogues to lead the ACC in assists

  • At the end of his career, ranked sixth in career minutes played, eighth in career steals, 18th in career games played and 36th in career points scored (1,114)

  • Three-year team captain

Cory Parr

  • NCAA All-America selection in doubles in 2008 and 2009 and singles in 2009

  • All-ACC honoree three-straight seasons from 2007-09

  • Participated in NCAA singles tournament in 2008 and 2009

  • Reached NCAA doubles quarterfinals in 2008 and 2009

  • Part of the doubles duo that claimed Wake Forest's first-ever national title, winning the 2008 ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship

Nikeya Green 

  • Four-time All-American (Outdoor 800 meters in 2002, 2003, 2004; Indoor 800 meters 2002)

  • Also earned All-America honors as a member of the fourth place Distance Medley Relay team at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championship

  • ACC Champion in the 800 meters both indoors and outdoors in 2004

  • Earned 5 All-ACC honors (2002 Indoor, 2003 Indoor, 2004 Indoor, 2003 Outdoor, and 2004 Outdoor)

  • Placed second in the 800 meters at the 2001 USA Junior National Championships, earning junior All-America honors and a spot on the U.S. Junior National Team

  • Holds the outdoor school record in the 800 meters at 2:04.46 and the indoor record at 2:05.31

Ron Wellman 

  • Led the Wake Forest University athletic department from 1992-2019

  • During his 27 years as Athletic Director, Wake Forest won 22 ACC Championships and five NCAA team championships as well as seven individual national titles.  The team titles came in field hockey in three consecutive seasons from 2002 through 2004, in men's soccer in 2007 and men's tennis in 2018.

  • Under Wellman's leadership, Wake Forest produced nine national players of the year, four national freshman of the year awards, and 171 first team All-Americans. In addition, during his 27-year tenure, Wellman oversaw: 607 first team All-ACC selections, 41 ACC Players of the Year and 36 ACC Coaches of the Year.

  • During his tenure at Wake Forest, the Graduation Success Rate was always 92% or higher, placing Wake Forest in the top 10 percent of all NCAA Division I schools 

  • His service, care and respect for the many student-athletes and coaches that he worked with were recognized by the presentation of the first Ron and Linda Wellman Life Teammate Award

    • The annual award recognizes a male and female student-athlete who best represents the characteristics of being a life teammate

Bill Faircloth

  • Recipient of the 2021 AFCA Outstanding Achievement Award

  • 2017 Inductee Sampson County Hall of Fame

  • 2012 Recipient of the Gene Hooks Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Three-year football letterwinner and captain of the Deacs 1963 team

  • Garnered All-ACC Academic Honors in 1963

  • Coaching and professional career spanned six decades including time as an assistant coach (1978-82) for Wake Forest football and an Assistant Athletic Director (1982-17)
