9/1/2022 10:37:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Wake Forest tallied seven goals for the first time since 1998.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's soccer team logged a season-high 26 shots en route to a 7-0 victory over in-state foe High Point Thursday evening.

Wake Forest displayed a balanced offensive attack as seven players registered a goal for the Demon Deacons. Freshman Caiya Hanks and Taryn Chance, along with sophomores Zara Chavoshi and Olivia Duvall logged their first career goal in the Old Gold and Black.

Seven goals are the most the Demon Deacons have scored in a match since 1998.  With the victory, Wake Forest improves to 4-0-1 on the season while High Point falls to 0-3-2.

The Deacs continue a five-match road swing Sunday when they travel to face Oakland at 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Olivia Stowell attempted the first shot of the match when she split the High Point center backs and fired a shot towards the center of the net that was saved.
  • Wake Forest controlled the tempo of the match early as the Demon Deacons tallied three shots over the first 13 minutes.

  • Wake Forest tallied four shots over the next 10 minutes before Alex Wood registered the Demon Deacons second tally of the match on a cross from fellow freshman Hanks.
  • 32 seconds later, Hanks recorded her first career goal as the Kailua-Kona, Hawaii native ran down the left side of the pitch and sent a shot just past the goalkeeper into the center of the net. 32 seconds is the third fastest time between goals in program history.

  • Wake Forest entered the halftime break with a commanding 3-0 lead.
  • Head coach Tony da Luz went deep into his rotation in the second half as 27 players touched the pitch for Wake Forest.
  • Wake Forest came out aggressive in the second half, logging three shots within the first three minutes of the half.
  • Over the next 17 minutes, the Demon Deacons attempted an additional four shots without finding the net before Chavoshi was fouled by High Point forward Skyler Prillaman in the box, resulting in a Chavoshi penalty kick.
  • Chavoshi fired a blistering shot past the goalkeeper to notch her first career goal.
  • Wake Forest continued to apply pressure to the High Point backline over the ensuing 13 minutes before Chance sprinted down the left side of the pitch past the High Point defense and scored her first career goal.
  • 48 seconds later, the Demon Deacons found themselves in scoring position again as Stowell beat several High Point defenders and blasted a shot to the bottom right of the net for her second goal of the season.
  • In the 84th minute, Duvall slid past numerous High Point defenders to notch her first career goal, giving Wake Forest a 7-0 lead.
