Liv Stowell tallied four points to lead the Demon Deacons to their first ACC win of the season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In its first home Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) match of the 2022 campaign, the Wake Forest women's soccer team (7-1-2, 1-1 ACC) defeated No. 14 Clemson (5-2-2, 1-1 ACC), 4-1, Thursday night at Spry Stadium.
Clemson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 25th minute, but Wake Forest responded just 12 seconds later when Liv Stowell sent a perfect cross into the box that deflected off the shin of a Clemson defender, before rolling to Alex Wood. Wood then turned around and fired a strike towards the upper right corner of the net to even the ledger, 1-1.
Just nine minutes later, Emily Morris gave the Demon Deacons the lead as she displayed a variety of moves before blasting a shot from just outside the box, towards the right post, into the net.
Despite carrying a 2-1 lead into the halftime break, Wake Forest remained on the attack in the second frame, as Allie Schmidt scored her first-career goal on a cross from Stowell.
The Demon Deacons registered their fourth tally of the match in the 60th minute when Carrie McIntire sprinted down the pitch and found Stowell open in the box. Stowell then fired a shot between two Clemson defenders, past the goalkeeper, for her fourth goal of the season.
Wake Forest's four goals scored are the most Clemson has allowed this season.
With the victory, Kaitlyn Parks tallied her 25th-career win in goal for the Demon Deacons. Thursday's victory over Clemson also marked the Demon Deacons' first win over a ranked opponent this season.
Wake Forest will return home Sunday to face Virginia Tech at 5 p.m. The match will be broadcasted on ACC Network.

Tony Time with Coach da Luz
"It was an unbelievable team performance tonight. A lot of kids stepped up under tough circumstances. We were challenged with a lot of injuries, and we were missing a lot of players, but the reserves came in and did a fantastic job. We stuck with the exact game plan of what we wanted to do. It was a complete performance. I can't say too much about it."
