Demon Deacons Look to Remain Unbeaten at Home Against Virginia Tech

Wake Forest is seeking its second ACC win of the 2022 season.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In a matchup of two highly touted ACC foes, Wake Forest (7-1-2, 1-1 ACC) will square off with Virginia Tech (7-2-1, 1-1 ACC) Sunday evening at Spry Stadium.
 
Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m., and the match will be broadcasted on ACC Network. 
 
The Matchup
  • Following a 4-1 victory over Clemson Thursday, Wake Forest will stay home to face Virginia Tech Sunday.
  • Thursday's victory over Clemson marked the Demon Deacons' first win over a ranked opponent this season.
  • Wake Forest has yet to lose at home this season, boasting a 4-0-1 record. The Hokies are unbeaten in road matches this season with a 4-0-0 mark.
  • Virginia Tech has outscored its opponents 25-12 this season.

Last Time Out
  • In its first home ACC match of the 2022 campaign, Wake Forest (7- 1-2, 1-1 ACC) defeated No. 14 Clemson (5-2-2, 1-1 ACC), 4-1, Thursday night at Spry Stadium.
  • Clemson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 25th minute, but Wake Forest responded just 12 seconds later when Liv Stowell sent a perfect cross into the box that deflected off the shin of a Clemson defender, before rolling to Alex Wood. Wood then turned around and fired a strike towards the upper right corner of the net to even the ledger, 1-1.
  • Just nine minutes later, Emily Morris gave the Demon Deacons the lead as she displayed a variety of moves before blasting a shot from just outside the box, towards the right post, into the net.
  • Despite carrying a 2-1 lead into the halftime break, Wake Forest remained on the attack in the second frame, as Allie Schmidt scored her first-career goal on a cross from Stowell.
  • The Demon Deacons registered their fourth tally of the match in the 60th minute when Carrie McIntire sprinted down the pitch and found Stowell open in the box. Stowell then fired a shot between two Clemson defenders, past the goalkeeper, for her fourth goal of the season.
  • With the victory, Kaitlyn Parks tallied her 25th-career win in goal for the Demon Deacons.
 
Scouting the Hokies
  • Virginia Tech is 7-2-1 this season with its two losses coming at the hands of South Carolina and Pitt.
  • The Hokies earned a 1-0 victory over No. 22 NC State in their last match.
  • Virginia Tech is led by the duo of Taylor Price and Natalie Mitchell, as they've combined for nine goals and eight assists this season.
