No. 24 Wake Forest Set to Face Maryland Thursday

The Demon Deacons will travel to Maryland for the first time since 2013.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 24 ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team (5-0-1) will continue its five-match road swing Thursday when the Demon Deacons travel to face former Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) member Maryland (1-0-4) at Ludwig Field in College Park, Md.
Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m., and the match will be streamed live on BTN+.

Wake Forest will continue its five-game road stretch on Sunday, Sept. 11 when the Demon Deacons travel to take on Loyola Maryland.

- Wake Forest is ranked No. 24 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Rankings.
- The Demon Deacons remain undefeated after two solid performances last weekend. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks refused to allow a goal in both contests, bringing her career shutout total to 17. This season, the Deacs have scored 15 goals, while conceding just one.
- Wake Forest is one of only 17 teams nationally to concede one goal or less this season.
- Wake Forest finished 25th in the RPI rankings last season.
Last Time Out
- Highlighted by a 78th minute goal from junior Liv Stowell, Wake Forest defeated Oakland, 1-0, Sunday at OU Soccer Field in Rochester, Mich.
- Wake Forest and Oakland battled to a 0-0 ledger for 77 minutes before freshman Alex Wood found Stowell streaking down the left side of the pitch. On the pass from Wood, Stowell blasted a shot just past the goalkeeper towards the far post for her third tally of the season to give the Deacs a 1-0 lead.
- Over the remaining 12 minutes, the stout Demon Deacon defense refused to relinquish the equalizing goal and went on to earn the 1-0 victory. For the match, Wake Forest held Oakland to a season-low four shots.
- This season, the Deacs have allowed only one goal, while recording five clean sheets.
- Freshman Caiya Hanks led Wake Forest in shots and shots on goal with four and two, respectively. Midfielder Kristi Vierra came off the bench and logged critical minutes for the Demon Deacons controlling the middle third.
Scouting the Terrapins
- Maryland earned its first victory of the season on Sunday in a 3-0 win over George Mason. Prior to Sunday's match against George Mason, the Terrapins logged four consecutive 1-1 ties to open the season.
- Sunday also marked the first win for Maryland head coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer.
- The Terrapins are led by Alina Stahl, who recorded her third goal of the season against the Patriots. Stahl scored or assisted on the first five goals of Maryland's season.
Series History
- The Demon Deacons hold a 13-9-2 record against former ACC foe Maryland.
- Thursday's contest will be the first time Wake Forest has traveled to Maryland since 2013.
- The last meeting between the two teams was last season. Kaitlyn Parks and her current starting back line earned a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory.
