WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Wake Forest men's basketball assistant coach Mike Muse will replace Joe Hugley as the Director of Player Relations and Community Service on the men's basketball staff.
"Mike Muse is someone I trust and whose opinion I value," said head coach Steve Forbes. "His knowledge of Wake Forest, Winston Salem and the ACC has been an invaluable resource to me and my staff since our arrival in 2020. Mike joined Coach Prosser's staff in 2006, and since that time, he has developed life-long relationships with our former players that will help connect and create a powerful bond between our past, current and future teams at Wake Forest. I know Skip is smiling down on this decision and that makes me smile."
Muse served as the Director of Basketball Operations during the 2006-07 season under Skip Prosser and an assistant coach under Dino Gaudio from 2007-09.
"I am looking forward to the opportunity to rejoin the men's basketball program and continue working with Coach Forbes and his staff," added Muse. "Since 2006, I have been blessed to be part of the Wake Forest basketball family. I have built great relationships throughout the years and look forward to continuing that with our basketball alumni and the current and future players."
Muse returned to Wake Forest in October of 2019 as the Deacon Club's Director of Basketball Alumni Relations and has served in that role for the past three years.
"Mike has done an incredible job over the last few years as the Director of Basketball Alumni," said Executive Associate Athletic Director Barry Faircloth. "He has developed a family atmosphere around our men's and women's basketball programs and was instrumental in the transitions of both Steve Forbes and Megan Gebbia."
Muse started his coaching career with two seasons at his alma mater, Appalachian State, before serving as a long-time teacher and coach in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system. In 2019, he was selected to coach in the North Carolina Coaches East-West All-Star Game, leading the West team to a 119-80 victory.
A native of Winston-Salem, Muse graduated from Appalachian State in 1985 with a degree in Physical Education and Health. He went on to earn his Master's in School Administration from Appalachian State in 1999.
Muse and his wife, Kimberly, reside in Tobaccoville, N.C. He has two daughters, Katie and Lauren, a son, Tanner, a stepdaughter, Jordan, and three grandchildren, Zelda, Penny and Boone.
