1/27/2023 3:09:00 PM | Men's Basketball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will host its second of three Big Four matchups inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum this weekend when they play the NC State Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 28). Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. inside LJVM and the game will air live on ACC Network.

The Deacs (14-7, 6-3) are coming off a midweek battle in Pittsburgh back on Wednesday night (Jan. 25). After trailing by double-figures at the halftime break, the Demon Deacons worked to cut into the deficit through the second half before narrowly falling to the Panthers, 81-79.

Pitt's eight free throw attempts are the second-lowest they've earned in ACC play this season. Wake Forest shot 50.9 percent from the field Wednesday night. That mark is the highest field goal percentage by an ACC opponent against Pitt this season. Wake's 79 points against Pitt are the second-most the Panthers have allowed in conference play this season. Wake Forest's seven turnovers are the lowest by an ACC team against Pitt this season.

With his eighth point against the Panthers, a three-pointer at the 13-minute mark in the second half, Daivien Williamson became the 21st player in program history to reach 1,500 career points. Williamson is now 21st on the all-time scoring list, with 1506 career points. The Winston-Salem native finished with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting and a 4-of-7 mark from three.

Andrew Carr posted 14 points and seven rebounds on a 50.0 percent shooting clip. Cameron Hildreth tallied 15 points while shooting over 66 percent from the field and snagging seven rebounds. Tyree Appleby finished with a line of 15 points, four rebounds, and seven assists.

The Wolfpack tied with the Demon Deacons in the conference standings at 6-4 and are 16-5 overall. They are coming off a narrow 85-82 home win against Notre Dame Tuesday night (Jan. 24) in Raleigh. Terquavion Smith leads the Wolfpack and the ACC in scoring with 18.62 points per game. Fellow starters D.J. Burns, Casey Morsell, Greg Gantt and Jarkel Joiner are all pulling down over four rebounds per game.
