The Demon Deacons picked up their first point against the Tar Heels since 2012.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Behind a 78th-minute equalizer from junior forward Emily Murphy, the Wake Forest women's soccer team secured a 1-1 draw against No. 3-ranked North Carolina Friday night at Spry Stadium.

With the tie, the Demon Deacons (8-2-4, 2-2-3 ACC) are now sixth in the ACC standings (nine points) with three matches remaining. Of note, the top six teams in the league make the ACC Tournament.

After conceding the opening goal in the 59th minute, the Demon Deacons upped the pressure and continued to battle in the midfield.

Trailing with just under 13 minutes remaining, junior defender Zara Chavoshi launched a long free kick into the box where junior forward Emily Murphy followed up her own shot with another and equalized for the Demon Deacons against her former team.

Murphy's goal was her sixth of the season and the 16th of her career. In addition to matching Caiya Hanks' team-high, the Windsor, England native set a new career-high with goals in a single season.

The Tar Heels (9-0-6, 4-0-3) held a slight edge in shots (9-6) and shots on target (4-3); however, the Deacs controlled a majority of the possession (52 percent).

In goal, junior keeper Payton Cahill tallied a career-high three saves. Of note, the Demon Deacons are now an impressive 2-0-2 in games that Cahill starts.
