This is Farrell's second Defensive Player of the Week nod of 2023, after receiving the initial honor following week one. The Norcross, Georgia native now holds four ACC weekly awards up to date throughout her young career – the highest total for a Wake Forest individual in the head coach Randi Smart era.

"Emma makes the game look easy," said Coach Smart. "She does everything and does it all like a pro! She really is one of the best. Keep it going, Emma!"
Steadying the forefront of a Demon Deacon defense that impressed this past weekend, Farrell reached a new season high in digs during Wake Forest's 3-1 victory at Boston College on Friday night (Oct. 6). She finished with 24, as 12 of those happened in the final set alone. Farrell was close to notching her first double-double of the year, handing out nine assists versus the Eagles. The Deacs' 74 total digs was their second-highest mark in a single match this fall.
On Sunday afternoon (Oct. 8), Farrell tied as the team leader in digs (12) in another 3-1 win, happening over Syracuse. Along with her usual hustle plays, she chipped in five assists.
For the weekend, Farrell averaged 4.5 digs-per-set, totaling 36 in eight frames. She currently stands 10th among all conference individuals within that category in 2023 (per Oct. 9), resting at a 3.75 mark.
Wake Forest is back home on Wednesday (Oct. 11) for its first midweek appearance of the season, set to host the Virginia Tech Hokies at 7 p.m. ET. The contest will act as the team's 'Pride Day' match and be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
