Senior standout Casie Wooten will lead the way for Wake Forest women’s tennis this year!
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Officially two months away from the start of its 2024 spring season, Wake Forest women's tennis has made an important decision within the program, as senior Casie Wooten was named team captain on Monday (Nov. 13), announced by head coach Jeff Wyshner.
This year will be Wooten's first as a captain for the Demon Deacons.
"Congratulations to Casie on being chosen by her teammates as captain of this year's team," said head coach Jeff Wyshner. "She embodies our team's commitment to being great teammates to each other as the first goal for players on this team. I think she'll do a great job of leading the group into the spring and finding ways to help her teammates and coaches be better!"
Wooten went 5-3 overall in singles within fall competition recently during the Deac's 2023 campaign. Representing at the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships (Oct. 19-23) in nearby Cary, she had an impressive run to the Round of 16, knocking off a pair of national opponents and winning four consecutive straight-set showings. The Torrance, California, native is the team's lone ranked individual in ITA singles – currently standing at No. 44.
Casie Wooten 2023 Fall Victories
In the 2023 spring, Wooten stepped into a bigger role as a junior, competing as the Deacons' No. 1 singles player. She maintained the highest national singles ranking of any Wake Forest individual throughout the entire spring, standing as high as No. 27 in the ITA. Wooten went on to record seven wins over nationally-ranked opponents, the most of her college career up to date. Named 'Most Valuable Player' of the 75th annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, she totaled 13 solo victories, which ranked third-best on the team. Her efforts and national standing throughout the year led to an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, partaking in the singles section for a first career appearance. Wooten opened the spring in a strong fashion by winning six of her first eight matches. Through the conclusion of ACC action, she finished second on the roster in conference solo wins. On April 2, 2023, Wooten notched her 100th combined career victory through singles and doubles during a home win over Syracuse.
