Demon Deacons Post Top Performances at Hokie Open

The Deacs will now travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday, Nov. 10.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – In the final test before the 2023 NCAA Southeast Regional, the Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams notched several solid performances at the Hokie Open Friday at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Va.

The Demon Deacon men tallied 27 points en route to defeating host Virginia Tech (28) and Hampton (80). The Deacs were paced by sophomore Weber Long, who clocked 18:12.3 to finish second overall.

Sophomores Bryce GIlmore (18:34.7), Jackson Keefer (18:48.7) and Paul Specht (18:56.7), along with junior Colin Chapman (19:12.9) completed the Demon Deacons' top-five spread. Overall, Wake Forest was the only program to have its top-three competitors finish in the top-10 Friday.

For the women, freshman Palmer Walstad (14:52.3), graduate student Natalie Weiner (15:02.6) and junior Laura Giudice (15:27.7) all finished in the top-12.
