Last Time Out
In front of an energetic home crowd, with a berth to the ITA National Indoor Championship on the line, the Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated Middle Tennessee, 4-2, Saturday night inside the Indoor Tennis Center at Wake Forest.

With last Saturday's victory, the Demon Deacons advanced to the ITA National Indoor Championship, held Feb. 17-20 in Chicago, Ill. Of note, Saturday's win over Middle Tennessee marked Wake Forest's 34th-consecutive home win, spanning over the last two seasons.

The Deacs secured the doubles point with wins from Matthew Thomson/Melios Efstathiou and Luciano Tacchi/Jurabek Karimov, which proved to be crucial as the teams headed into a tightly-contested singles clash.

Thomson recorded the first win of singles play on Court 5 to give the Deacs a 2-0 lead before Fillippo Moroni and Juan Lopez de Azcona closed it out on Courts 1 and 6, respectively.

The Matchup - Campbell
Campbell enters Saturday's showdown with a 0-1 mark this season as its lone defeat came at the hands of No. 14 North Carolina. Coming into this season, Campbell was picked to finish third by league head coaches in the 2023 Big South Conference men's tennis preseason poll.

The Camels return eight of nine players from last season's squad that finished 16-6 overall, won the regular season title (7-0), posted a 12-match win streak and reached the league title match.

Saturday will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the Demon Deacons and the Camels as Wake Forest owns a 1-2 record. Of note, the Deacs own a 13-0 record against schools in the state of North Carolina since the start of the 2022 season.

The Matchup - South Carolina State
South Carolina State boasts a 2-3 record through its first five matches this season. The Bulldogs' two victories came against The Citadel and Benedict College.

In South Carolina State's last match, the Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 decision to Coastal Carolina. Last season, SCSU won its second-straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) title and its 14th in the last 18 seasons.

All-time, Wake Forest owns a 2-0 mark against South Carolina State with the last meeting between the two programs taking place during the 2021 season.

2023 Season Outlook
Wake Forest returns nine Demon Deacons from a season ago, including 2022 All-ACC second team honoree Melios Efstathiou and 2022 All-ACC third team selections Jurabek Karimov and Filippo Moroni.

Efstathiou, a product of Limassol, Cyprus, logged a 16-7 dual singles record last spring. He has collected a total of 76-career singles wins. Efstathiou posted a stellar 13-5 (5-1 ACC) record at No. 2 and 3 singles last season, including a 3-2 record at the No. 1 position. Overall, Efstathiou is 76-31 in singles action since joining the Deacs.

In his first season in Winston-Salem, Karimov's road to third-team All-ACC a season ago included a 6-12 (2-3 ACC) dual singles record. The Tashkent, Uzbekistan logged three ranked wins. In doubles competition, Karimov has posted a 6-2 (4-1 ACC) mark in dual matches.

Moroni posted an 11-3 mark in dual matches and reached the NCAA Singles Championships Round of 32 during the 2022 campaign. Of note, Moroni earned two ranked wins and clinched four matches with the Demon Deacons last season.

Sustained Success
Wake Forest has made the NCAA Tournament in each of the past nine seasons, including the 2018 season in which the Demon Deacons won the program's first ever NCAA Championship.

Since head coach Tony Bresky took over the program in 2012, the Deacs have accumulated 31 All-ACC honors. Of note, five Demon Deacons earned All-ACC honors last season, marking the most in a single season in program history.
