Demon Deacons Lead the Field after 36 Holes of Valspar Invitational

All five Wake Forest players are inside the top 25 heading into the final day.
AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Wake Forest women's golf team dominated the field on the first day of the two-day Valspar Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Georgia. The Deacs head into Sunday's final round with an 11-stroke lead as one of just three teams under par for the event.
Wake Forest led the field in scoring on par threes and was second in scoring on par fours and fives. As a team, they recorded the most birdies in the field with 38 along with 113 pars. Lauren Walsh led the 78-player field in scoring on par threes and Rachel Kuehn led the field in scoring on par fours and fives. Emilia Migliaccio recorded the most pars out of any player in the field with 31, while Kuehn led the charge with 16 birdies.
Kuehn started her day with two birdies on her first three holes and was one under par through nine before catching fire in the second half of her first round. She birdies five of her final seven holes, including back-to-back birdies on her last two holes of the round. The momentum continued in her favor in the second round as she again birdied two of her first three holes. She was two under after her first nine in the second round and birdied three of her final four holes to finish the round six under and 10 under for the day. The senior enters Sunday's final round with a three-stroke lead on the individual field.
Carolina Chacarra was the only other Deacon under par for the day and sits inside the top seven, a tie for sixth, heading into the final round. She started the day with a birdie on the first hole of her first round and recorded three more before the round was up to start the second round four under par. She recorded three more on her second 18 before finishing the second round one over. She is three under par heading into the final round.
Migliaccio showed her poise on the 36-hole day, recording 31 pars on the day. Her steady play was made up of two birdies and two bogeys on her first 18 holes and just one bogey on an otherwise clean sheet for her second round. She will start Sunday's final round one over par and in a tie for 14th.
Lauren Walsh sits next to Migliaccio on the individual leaderboard at tied for 14th. Her first round consisted of five birdies and six bogeys to put her at one over par before the second round. She recorded three birdies to balance out three bogeys on the second 18 and maintain her position inside the top 20.
Mimi Rhodes enters Sunday's final round one stroke back from Migliaccio and Walsh, at two over par and tied for 22nd. After starting the day with a bogey on the first hole of the first round, she rebounded with three birdies to finish the first 18 at one under par. Two birdies on her first nine of the second round helped her make the turn at even par but finished the round three over and two over on the day.
Playing as an individual, freshman Anne-Sterre den Dunnen recorded back-to-back 77s and enters the final round ten over par and tied for 61st.
Final Round
Sunday's final round will begin with a shotgun at 9 a.m. Wake Forest will be going off the first three tees and will be paired with Augusta and Florida State. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
