Deacs Clinch First-Round Bye, Draw Virginia Tech to Open 2023 ACC Championship

The Demon Deacons will enter this year’s ACC Championship as the No. 6 seed.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Following a successful 2023 regular season campaign, the 18th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team will enter this season's ACC Championship as the No. 6 seed, as announced by the league office Sunday evening.
 
The Demon Deacons (23-10, 7-5 ACC) will square off with No. 11 seed Virginia Tech on Thursday, April 20 at 6 p.m. on Bank 1 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. The winner of Thursday's match will move on to the quarterfinals to face third-seeded NC State on Friday at 6 p.m.
 
Thursday's contest between Wake Forest and Virginia Tech will mark the 44th all-time meeting between the two sides as the Demon Deacons own a 29-14 ledger against the Hokies. Of note, the Deacs have won nine-consecutive matches against Virginia Tech, dating back to 2015.
 
2023 ACC Championship
The Saturday semifinal match featuring the highest remaining seed and the Sunday championship match will broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
 
Single day tickets are priced at $10 for adults (ages 18 and older; children under 9 and ACC students get in free with school ID) and $7 for youth ages 17 and under. A full Championship pass for all five days is priced at $25. Tickets may be purchased online at https://www.etix.com/ticket/v/11254. All seating for the tournament is General Admission.

Just seven days ago, Wake Forest swept Virginia Tech (7-0) in its final home match of the 2023 campaign.
 
The Deacs got off to an excellent start, taking the doubles point against the Hokies with victories in second and third doubles as Matthew Thomson/Filippo Moroni defeated Alberto Orso/Scott Sculley (6-2) and Juan Lopez de Azcona/Melios Efstathiou knocked off Matt Harper/Frank Thompson (6-4).
 
The Demon Deacons' momentum from doubles play carried over into singles as the Deacs went a perfect 6-0 in singles play to secure the match victory.
