SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The No. 2 Demon Deacons head into the final round of stroke play on Monday afternoon 11 strokes inside the top eight cut line. The team finished Sunday 10 strokes inside the top 15 cut line.
Sophomore Carolina Chacarra led the Deacs on day three with a one-over 73. After making the turn at two over, she had back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11 to get back to even par. One more birdie on the 16th hole held her position to finish one over.
Senior Rachel Kuehn and graduate Emilia Migliaccio each went three over on the third day. Kuehn had back-to-back birdies before the turn and finished with five straight pars.
Junior Mimi Rhodes maintained her top 25 position on day three and recorded a bogey-free back nine with two birdies, including the par-five 18th.
After a difficult first nine holes, senior Lauren Walsh birdied the par-three eighth hole and ended her round with eight straight pars. She enters the final round of stroke play as the low Deac three under par and tied for 12th.
The Deacs will tee off at 2:50 p.m. ET for Monday's final round and will be paired with Stanford and Texas. Live scoring will be available with hole-by-hole updates all day.
Television coverage will be 4-5 p.m. ET on College Central and 5-9 p.m. ET on GOLF Channel. At the conclusion of Monday's round, the NCAA individual champion will be awarded, and the top eight teams will advance to the quarterfinals of match play on Tuesday morning.
Coach's Comments
"The course is changing and not playing the same as it did the first two days. The rough is getting thicker and the greens are getting faster, so we need to make some adjustments. We started to do that toward the end of the round today, but we didn't do them in the beginning.
We have a lot of veterans on our team that have all stepped up. Emotions are always high in events like this but if we can channel those emotions and use them to our advantage it can help a lot. We will go back to our game plan and make some adjustments tonight so we can come out tomorrow and finish strong inside the top eight for match play." - Head Coach Kim Lewellen
