WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The top-ranked Wake Forest baseball team defeated UNC Greensboro, 14-4, in its final home midweek game of the season on Tuesday evening inside David F. Couch Ballpark.

This year's squad became the fastest team in program history and the first team in the nation this year to reach the 40-win mark.

Overall, Wake Forest (40-7, 18-5 ACC) leads the nation in winning percentage and leads the ACC with 18 conference wins.

The Deacs have been impressive on its home turf after the last two seasons, accumulating a 53-9-1 record at The Couch, highlighted by its impressive 27-2 mark in 2023 with three home regular season games remaining.

Overall, the Deacs have outscored opponents, 599-206, in home games since last year.

Wake Forest blasted five home runs in the win, led by Nick Kurtz with a pair of long flies.

Solo shots from Lucas Costello and Kurtz in the first set the tone for the offensive approach for the remainder of the game.

In the third, Kurtz's second home run of the night as well as a solo homer from Brock Wilken extended Wake Forest's lead to 5-1.

After a scoreless frame on the mound from Joe Ariola in the top of the fourth, the Demon Deacons pushed across nine runs in the fourth, its second-highest scoring inning of the year.

Costello and Wilken posted RBI-singles before Justin Johnson cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to the right center field gap. Danny Corona capped off the big inning with a three-run home run to right field.

Reed Mascolo made his 10th start of the season, tossing three innings with one earned run allowed.

In addition to Ariola, William Ray, Derek Crum, Chase Walter and Ben Shenosky made relief appearances on the mound.

Words from Walter
"Any win this time of year is a good win. Reed Mascolo hasn't pitched in a couple of weeks and he wasn't as sharp as he's been earlier in the year, but he managed to get a couple big double play balls. He gave us three innings while allowing just that one run. After that, Joe Ariola, Will Ray and Derek Crum all threw the ball well. I was pleased with the way all three of those guys threw.

"Offensively, Kurtzy with the two home runs. Brock with the home run. Danny Corona had a really good day so good to see that. Good to see Cec get on the board with a couple knocks. Lucas Costello and Tommy Hawke set the table by getting on-base a couple times. It was a good, solid team win heading into a big weekend against Florida State."
