
Wake Forest Men's Soccer Earns United Soccer Coaches Academic Team Award

The Demon Deacons were selected for the academic honor after excelling in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year.
KANSAS CITY, MO. -- Wake Forest men's soccer has earned the United Soccer Coaches' Academic Team Award for the 2022-23 academic year, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Recognized for exemplary performance in the classroom, programs selected for the award earned a team cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Last year, the Deacs landed a program record 13 selections to the All-ACC Academic Team, surpassing the previous high of six honorees in 2020 and 2021. Of the 13 selections, 12 are on the 2023 roster while Takuma Suzuki was amongst the 104 Demon Deacon student-athletes to earn a Wake Forest degree in the spring.
Suzuki and Garrison Tubbs became the fifth and sixth Deacs in program history to earn three All-ACC Academic Team selections, joining Andy Lubahn (2010-11, 13), Ian Harkes (2013-16), Jacori Hayes (2013-16) and Brad Dunwell (2015-18). Tubbs also earned the distinction of being a United Soccer Coaches First-Team Scholar All-American.
Additionally, 20 members of the team were part of a school-record 317 student-athletes to earn a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll in 2022-23.
Wake Forest, ranked No. 18 in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll, opens the regular season on Thursday, Aug. 24 against Grand Canyon in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
