Griffis Named on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List

The award is presented annually by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc. to the nation's top quarterback who best exemplifies character, scholastic and athletic achievement.
BALDWIN, Md. – Wake Forest redshirt sophomore quarterback Mitch Griffis was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List, as announced Wednesday.
The award is presented annually by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc. to the nation's top quarterback who best exemplifies character, scholastic and athletic achievement.
Griffis is one of just two four to grace the preseason watch list. Additionally, this is the fourth consecutive year a Demon Deacon signal caller has been named to the watch list.

Entering his fourth year in the program, Griffis is set to start his first season as the full-time starting quarterback.
Over the course of his career, Griffis has appeared in 14 games, tallying six career touchdown passes with five coming a year ago.
The Ashburn, Va. native appeared in six games, making one start during the 2022 season, helping lead the team to its seventh consecutive bowl game and back-to-back bowl wins with a victory over Missouri in the Gasparilla Bowl. He finished the season 29-of-41 for 348 yards and five touchdowns while only having one interception
In his first collegiate start, Griffis went 21-of-29 for 288 yards and three touchdowns against VMI. He also had pass attempts and completions against Army and Louisville, completing touchdown drives in both games.
Ahead of the 2023 season, Griffis was named as a first-year captain.
