Wake Forest Releases Fall 2023 Schedule

The Demon Deacons will kick off the fall slate, hosting the Wake Forest Invitational Sept. 15-17.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Following the program's 10th-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance last spring, head coach Tony Bresky officially unveiled the 2023 fall slate for the Wake Forest men's tennis team Tuesday evening.
"We have an outstanding fall schedule planned with several events at home," said Bresky. "Our guys are excited to get started and are eager to face some really strong competition. It's a great blend of top college events with some ITF events, which will help prepare our team for a challenging team season in the spring. "
The Slate
The Demon Deacons will open the fall 2023 campaign this week (Sept. 15-17) with some players staying in Winston-Salem for the Wake Forest Invitational and others heading to the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
One week later, the squad will travel to the North Carolina Invitational in Chapel Hill, before making their way to Tulsa, Okla., for the 2023 ITA All-American Championships.
After a two week hiatus, the Demon Deacons will return to action for the ITA Carolina Regional, hosted by Duke (Oct. 20-24). Fall play will then conclude in early November with another rendition of the Wake Forest Invitational.

In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Preseason Rankings, Wake Forest had three singles players and two doubles pairs ranked.

Wake Forest welcomes nine newcomers entering the Fall 2023 season, highlighted by Utah transfer Franco Capalbo and James Madison transfer Holden Koons.
Under Bresky
Since arriving at Wake Forest, head coach Tony Bresky has enjoyed a decorated career, winning ITA National Coach of the Year in 2018, along with garnering ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2013 and 2016. Additionally, Bresky has been tabbed ITA Regional Coach of the Year on four occasions (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019). Of note, Bresky led Wake Forest to its first-ever national title in 2018, after accumulating a 33-2 mark.
Individually, Bresky has coached two ACC Players of the Year (Noah Rubin and Melios Efstathiou), along with 32 All-ACC selections and nine ITA Singles All-Americans.
During his tenure at Wake Forest, Bresky has amassed 299 wins. Of note, in last season's victory over then-No. 6 Tennessee, Bresky became the winningest coach in program history, surpassing the legendary Jim Leighton.

Bresky's teams have also excelled in the classroom during his stint in Winston-Salem, as he's coached 17 All-ACC Academic Team honorees and one ACC Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year.

- The Deacs' 26 wins last season marked the seventh time in the last eight years that Wake Forest had tallied 25+ wins.
- The lone exception was the COVID-impacted 2020 season.

- In addition to being crowned ACC Player of the Year, Efstathiou was tabbed to the All-ACC First Team, marking Wake Forest's 32nd honoree during the Bresky era.
- Efstathiou was crowned the 2023 ACC Player of the Year after accumulating a 18-4 record in dual singles matches during the regular season.
- During the 2023 ACC Championships, Wake Forest reached the semifinals of the annual tournament for the seventh time in the past eight seasons after knocking off Virginia Tech and NC State.
- After earning an at-large bid, the Demon Deacons reached the NCAA Tournament for the 10th-consecutive season.
- Additionally, the Deacs reached the second round for the ninth-straight year after defeating Memphis.
- Overall, Wake Forest recorded 12 ranked wins, including three victories over teams ranked in the top 25 last season.
