Michael Brennan and Collin Adams both finished day one ranked in the top-three at the Highlands Invitational
WESTCHESTER, Ill.- Michael Brennan and Collin Adams led the Deacs on their charge to the top-three during day one of the Highlands Invitational. The Demon Deacons finished off their day shooting 21-under-par with four players in the top-25. Two of those players finished in the top-three at the end of day one.
Michael Brennan started off his day scoring two birdies through nine in Chicago. At the turn, the senior found his stride posting birdies on holes 10, 12, and 13. Brennan shot 66 (-4) and finished off his round with a clutch eagle on hole 18.
During the second round, Brennan kept pace adding two more birdies and another eagle to his score. Brennan led the field in eagles at the end of day one. The Virginia native finished the day eight-under-par and secured a top-three position.
In addition to an impressive day from Brennan, Collin Adams made a quick start for the Deacs. The junior posted three birdies before he hit the turn in round one. On the back nine, Adams scored two additional birdies and ended on hole 18 with an eagle. The Charlotte native put up four birdies through 15 holes but his round was cut short due to darkness. Adams is five-under-par and will resume play in the morning.
Marshall Meisel helped add to the Deacs lead with his performance on day one. Meisel started off the morning with two birdies. On hole nine. The junior sank a long putt for an eagle on hole nine of round one. During his second round, Meisel scored five birdies through 18 holes to end the day in the top-15 shooting two-under-par.
Scotty Kennon posted ten birdies during his day one performance. Notably, the junior scored four birdies in a row from holes four through seven on the front nine in round one. Kennon notched 10 birdies in total with a top-15 finish at the end of day one.
Round two of the Highlands Invitational ended short due to darkness. The players who did not finish will tee off at 8:10 a.m. ET to complete round two. Round three will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET.
The Wake Forest B Team will tee off from 8:30 to 9:10 a.m. ET with Rutgers and College of Charleston. The Wake Forest A Team will tee off from 10:10 to 10:50 a.m. ET with Virginia and Missouri. Clay Stirsman will tee off against the Duke and Virginia contestants at 10:20 a.m. ET.
