Freshman Rocky Hansen paced the Demon Deacons, finishing fifth overall in his first collegiate race.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Behind a stellar performance from freshman Rocky Hansen, the Wake Forest men's cross country team placed 11th at the Virginia Invitational Saturday at the Panorama Farms Cross Country Course in Charlottesville, Va.
Hansen, a two-time Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year, clocked 23:30.9 in his first collegiate race en route to a fifth-place finish, becoming the only freshman to finish in the top-20 individually Saturday.
Sophomore's Joe O'Brien, Charlie Sprott and Gavin Ehlers, along with junior Luke Tewalt joined Hansen in completing the Deacs' top five spread.
Overall, Wake Forest placed 11th despite Saturday's meet featuring 14 ranked teams, including six top-10 squads. Of note, the Demon Deacons finished ahead of five teams that were ranked nationally coming into Saturday's meet.

The Wake Forest men will return to action on Oct. 6 when they travel to Charlotte for the Royals XC Challenge, while the women are slated to resume competition next week (Sept. 30) at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
