The Demon Deacons head into the 2023-24 season returning nine players from last year's team. One of which is the 2023 ACC Individual Champion, Michael Brennan.
Last season, the Deacs were led all season by ACC Individual Champion. He became the 23rd Demon Deacon to win the title, taking home medalist honors after winning on the third playoff hole over Hiroshi Tai of Georgia Tech.
The Leesburg, Va. native captured his fifth career individual victory in the Southwestern Invitational in January over a loaded field.
With a pair of wins in each of his three seasons in Winston-Salem, only three Demon Deacons have more than six titles in their collegiate career: Bill Haas (10), Gary Hallberg (9) and Curtis Strange (8).
Brennan joined quite the company to win the Southwestern title in its 40-plus year history as it has been the start to illustrious pro careers for many.
Along with that Haas' father and Wake Forest Head Coach Jerry ('85), his Uncle Jay ('76), and Cousin Bill ('04) all shined during their time as Demon Deacons. The Haas' have won a combined 18 times during their playing days at Wake Forest to go along with raking in numerous accolades.
Wake Forest finished first in two different team tournaments last year. Along with that they finished in the top five in six team tournaments. In the last two seasons, the Demon Deacons have made it to the ACC Championship Final including winning the program's 19th conference crown in 2022.
The fall is full of playing opportunities for everyone on the team, playing all around the country at historic clubs and in challenging environments.
This includes The Highlands Invitational, a new event this season as it will take place at Chicago Highlands in Westchester, Ill. The club is regularly named one of the top courses in the state of Illinois and the par-4 ninth was named by Golf Digest one of the 18 best holes built in the U.S. since 2000.
This will be the first ever collegiate event at the golf course and the Demon Deacons are proud to be the host of the inaugural event. This will be the first opportunity of the season for the entire roster to play in the same event.
Chicago Highlands hosted the 2020 Evans Scholar Invitational on the Korn Ferry Tour where Will Zalatoris finished tied for second at 16-under-par. Additionally, the club is in the running to potentially host the BMW Championship on the PGA Tour, starting in 2025.
