She became the first Demon Deacon since 2019 to earn the honor.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After grabbing a pair of ranked victories at the Carolina Kickoff this past weekend, senior Casie Wooten has been named ACC Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

It marked the first such honor in her career, along with becoming the first Wake Forest player to win the award since Emma Davis in February of 2019.

At the Carolina Kickoff, No. 42 Wooten grabbed her 13th and 14th wins over ranked opponents in her career. On Saturday (Jan. 13), she took down No. 67 Maria Sholokhova of Wisconsin, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. She followed that win up with another comeback victory on Sunday (Jan. 14), this time over No. 34 DJ Bennett of Auburn, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The senior also picked up a doubles win alongside sophomore Krystal Blanch, as they won a close, 7-6(5) match over Hamner/Biran of South Carolina.

"It was a really strong weekend for Casie and a great way for her to start her senior year," head coach Jeff Wyshner said. "Getting player of the week in the ACC is very hard to do. I think it is our first since 2019 despite some great players and great weeks since, so congrats to Casie!"

In the fall, the senior picked up four-consecutive straight-set victories en route to a Round of 16 appearance at the ITA All-American Championships, with wins over No. 54 Alex Blokhina (Stanford) and No. 8 Anastasiya Komar (Oklahoma State).

Wooten will be in action again this weekend as the Deacs open match play against Tennessee and Bellarmine this Sunday (Jan. 21) in Knoxville.
