Kevin "Boopie" Miller: My Wake Forest Story

1/28/2024 9:27:00 AM | Men's Basketball

Coming from a mid-major to a high major has been a huge blessing to me. Watching players like Tyree Appleby succeed and knowing before I committed that I could come here and get better and have an impact on the team and our success was a big part of my decision. The staff and community have given me the confidence to play my game freely and I have had a great experience here so far.

Forbes and the coaching staff welcomed me with open arms. They treated me like family when we first met, and that goes a long way. They treated me and my family with respect and told us what to expect on this journey to Wake Forest, and we have felt nothing but belonging since arriving. My family is always welcomed at games and on campus when they are able to come see me play, and my little sister is always having fun cheering for me and my teammates in the stands. I am so grateful that my real family gets to experience all the good things my Wake Forest family has done for me and still has to offer me.

During this journey, it has been a great time with my teammates also. The new locker room and having all the facilities in one place makes it easy to become a part of the community, and I love the community here at Wake Forest. The people, the fans, students and teachers treat everyone with respect and love. I also love the academics of Wake Forest because it has taught me a lot and helped me gain relationships off the court. My time in the classroom is very intentional and the faculty here wants to see you succeed in life just as much as they do in basketball, and that means a lot to me. We all have interests outside of basketball, so to be able to continue to grow in that way and set myself up for success on and off the court just adds to the list of benefits of coming here.

This community has done nothing but show love and support for me and my family, and I am so thankful for that. I want people to know that I did not come to Wake Forest just for basketball, but to build relationships with others and gain knowledge for my future, and the more time I spend here the more confident I am that I made the right decision.
