Three Deacs in Top-25 at Southwestern Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – After a series of strong performances Monday, the Wake Forest Men's Golf Team wrapped up the first day of play at the Southwestern Invitational in Malibu, Calif.
The Deacs finish the day tied at sixth, with a score of 284 (E). Three Demon Deacons finished the day in the top 25 and Wake Forest is still in contention for the team title with a strong final two days at North Ranch Golf Club.
Senior Michael Brennan and junior Scotty Kennon helped lead the Deacs with under-par opening rounds and are firmly in the picture for the individual title. Both players are tied at sixteen with a score of 70 (-1). Between holes fifteen and six, Kennon tallied six birdies to highlight his day and it solidified his under-par round. During that same stretch, Brennan notched three birdies and was one of two Demon Deacons to card an eagle on Monday.
Joining Brennan and Kennon in the top 25 is graduate Daniel Sheedy as he was just one shot back, turning in a first round 72 (E). Sheedy's eagle on the sixth hole pushed the Deacs up the leaderboard.
Playing as an individual, Kyle Haas ended the day with two birdies on the back nine. After his second birdie to get back to even par, Haas parred the next eleven holes and nearly ended even par but a bogey on his final hole pushed his score to one-over and he is tied for 34th.
