
Wake Forest Makes Powerful Return to Royals XC Challenge, Securing a First-Place Victory

Grace Wassell led the squad with a dominant fourth place finish, posting a career-best of 17:17.01
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's cross country team returned to action Friday evening, securing a first-place victory at the Royals XC Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. With five Demon Deacons finishing in the top 12, the squad amassed a total of 27 points in the 5k gold race, 34 points better than second-place Charlotte.
Sophomore Grace Wassell delivered an impressive fourth-place individual finish, shattering her previous 5k personal-best by clocking an outstanding 17:17.01 and leading the Demon Deacons to a first-place finish.
The Demon Deacons featured graduate student Rylan Engels (17:23.4) and junior Emma Douglass (17:26.5.) who carried out eighth and ninth-place finishes. Douglass surpassed her time of 18:04.14 at the 2023 Royals XC Challenge.
Aiden Harrand carried out a 10th place finish, clocking 17:29.2, while Mackenzie Hart solidified the Demon Deacons' top-five with a 12th place finish, clocking 17:31.7.
