
Wake Forest Two Strokes Off Lead After Opening Day of Ruth’s Chris Intercollegiate

Carolina Chacarra leads the field by one stroke.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team is tied for second place and just two strokes of the lead after the first 18 holes of the Ruth's Chris Intercollegiate at Finley Golf Club.
The Deacs were second in scoring on par-threes and led the field with 14 birdies. The Deacs also recorded 51 pars as a group. Senior Carolina Chacarra led all players in scoring on par-threes going two-under across the five par-three holes. Chacarra was second in scoring on the par-fours, going one-under. Chacarra's five birdies in her first round also led the entire field on day one. Graduate Sky Sload and sophomore Macy Pate each recorded three in their rounds.
After the opening 18 holes, Chacarra leads the 90-player field by one stroke. She finished her round with a three-under 67 that included four birdies on her first nine holes. She recorded back-to-back-to-back birdies on the eighth, ninth and 10th holes to finish the day three under and at the top of the leaderboard.
Sophomore Macy Pate and graduate Sky Sload are also inside the top 20 after the first day of play, as both Deacs finished with a two-over 72 and each recorded three birdies throughout their rounds.
Saturday's Second Round
The second round of play will begin with the first tee times at 8:30 a.m. ET. Wake Forest will tee off the first hole at 10:10 in 10-minute intervals and will be paired with Kentucky and Michigan State.
