
Two Deacs Travel to Greensboro for Qubein Cup

Boyd Owens and Jorge Hao will compete as individuals at Sedgefield Country Club starting Monday
GREENSBORO, N.C.- Two Demon Deacons men's golfers are set to take part in the inaugural Qubein Cup hosted at Sedgefield Golf Club, with junior Boyd Owens and freshman Jorge Hao playing as individuals for the Deacs.
Owens and Hao will be making their second appearances of the 2024-25 season, after helping the Deacs claim their first team title at the Lyon's Link Invitational in September.
Home of the PGA Tour's Wyndham Championship, Sedgefield is no stranger to hosting high-profile players as it has been attracting tournament play since 1926.
The tournament features a 15-team field including two top-25 teams.
The 54-hole event will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. with 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 14. Tee times on No. 1 and No. 10 for the final round on Tuesday, Oct. 15 will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Playing as an Individual for the Deacs
In Owen's last outing at the Lyon's Links Invitational, the junior ended in 33rd place at 12-over. At the Inverness Intercollegiate, Owens was first in the field in par-three scoring, going -3, and led the Deacs in birdies scored (12) throughout the Inverness Intercollegiate. Owens ends round three tied for 38th. Owens competed in five events last season for the Deacs. Last fall, Owens had a season-best performance at the Highlands Invitational (T36), helping Wake Forest claim the team title. During the 2022-23 season, Owens ended the year with three top-20 finishes including a season-best performance at the Battle at the Run where he placed fourth and helped guide the Deacs to their second team title of the season.
In his collegiate debut at the Lyon's Links Invitational, Hao finished T23 at 5-over. Hao is currently Ranked 26th in the U18 European Golf Rankings, and previously ranked as high as 122nd in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Hao has won seven junior events, and finished in the top-10 in 30 junior events.

Sedgefield Golf Club

A vision of fabled course architect Donald Ross, Sedgefield Country Club features undulating greens and rolling fairways. The course underwent a $3 million restoration project in 2007, transforming the layout back to Ross' original intent. Sedgefield, with its iconic Tudor-style clubhouse has host the Wyndham Championship since 2008. It served as host of the Greater Greensboro Open off-and-on between 1938 and 1976. A who's who of golf have one on the legendary loop, including Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Gary Player, Chi-Chi Rodriguez.
