Senior Marshall Meisel picked up his best career finish and first top five finish of the season
EAST HAMPTON, N.Y.- The Wake Forest men's golf team claimed another top-five finish of their 2024-25 season, while Wake Forest senior Marshall Meisel fired a final round of 69 (-3) and finished runner-up at the Hamptons Intercollegiate at the Maidstone Club on Tuesday.
Meisel shot rounds of 70-73-69 to finish the tournament in second place at 4-under par. This was the Chevy Chase, Md. native's best career-finish, and it was his first top-five finish of his senior season
This helped the Demon Deacons solidify their position on the leaderboard, holding off No. 23 Arkansas by 19 strokes. As a team, the Deacs carded a third round of two-under 286 on Tuesday and finished in fourth place at one-under par with a final score of 863.
Kyle Haas tallied four birdies during his final round, ending the tournament tied for 17th place. The sophomore shot is best round in round two, carding a two-under 70.
After turning in a team-best 67 in round two on Monday, sophomore Tom Haberer carded a two-over 74 final round. Haberer remains in the top 25, tying for 21st at four-over par.
Junior Jakob Melin came up clutch with a big final round. He turned in his second round of par or better this week, posting a 68 (-4) in the third round and finishing T25. Between holes 13 and 18, Melin carded a birdie on every hole to improve 20 positions up the individual leaderboard.
Senior Scotty Kennon finished the Hamptons Intercollegiate tied for 38th. Collin Adams, playing as an individual, shot a final-round of 75 to finish the event holding a share of 29th place at 8-over.
From Coach Haas:
"Marshall started fast, stayed up near the top all week and got his best career finish. Maidstone was an awesome test and a great event, thanks to Loyola Maryland for hosting. We had a couple of good solid days, and just a couple bad holes got us. The weather was bad on day one in the morning and we had our best round in tough conditions. We will get there by season's end. Go Deacs!"
