Wake Forest Ends 2024 at Syracuse

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will close out 2024 with its final game of the calendar year with a trek up north to Syracuse. The Deacs and the Orange will tip at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, with the game airing live on ESPN2.
 
Wake Forest is coming off its second 10-day break from games for the second time this month. Before the holiday break, Wake fell to then-ranked No. 25 Clemson 73-62 at Clemson, Dec. 21.
 
Hunter Sallis led all players in scoring, racking up 26 points on an 11-of-15 shooting clip (73.3 field goal percentage). The Omaha native has now notched five performances of 20-plus points this season and posted his second consecutive showing of 26 or more points.
 
Cameron Hildreth chipped in 15 points and four rebounds for the Deacs in 33 minutes of action. Fellow senior Efton Reid grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and contributed seven points. Tre'Von Spillers pulled down six boards.
 
Wake Forest shot 50 percent from the floor for the second straight game, making 25 of 50 field goal attempts.
 
Entering the game ranked second in the league in field goal percentage defense, the Deacons held Clemson to a collective 39.3 team field goal percentage on 24-of-61 shooting.

The Matchup
Syracuse is coming off a 75-63 home win over Bucknell over the weekend. Two Orange players recorded double-doubles in the win, Eddie Lampkin Jr. (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Donnie Freeman (15 points, 11 rebounds). Syracuse is 6-6 on the season with one conference matchup under their belt - a 69-64 loss at Notre Dame. The Orange's leading scorer JJ Starling (19.8 ppg) has not appeared in a game since the win over Colgate at the end of November.
