No. 3 Wake Forest Set to Open ACC Play at No. 8 Virginia and Virginia Tech

The Demon Deacons are seeking their first win over the Cavaliers since 2020.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In a match with potential ACC postseason ramifications, the No. 3-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team will open conference play, traveling to face reigning back-to-back national champion, No. 8 Virginia Friday evening at the Virginia Tennis Complex at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
Sunday, the third-ranked Demon Deacons will conclude their road swing, squaring off with Virginia Tech. First serve for Friday's showdown with the Cavaliers is slated for 3:00 p.m., while Sunday's match against the Hokies will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Last Time Out (at Georgia)
After dropping the doubles point, No. 3 Wake Forest stormed back to defeat 2023 NCAA Quarterfinalist Georgia, 5-2, Monday evening at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
With the victory, the Demon Deacons improved to 5-0 against Georgia, dating back to 2017. Additionally, the result marked just the second loss the Bulldogs had suffered at home over the past two seasons.
Monday, the Deacs faced an early 1-0 deficit as they dropped the doubles point for the first time in over three weeks (Feb. 4). Undaunted, Wake Forest reeled off four-straight singles victories to clinch the match, before going on to win, 5-2.
Individually, graduate student Matthew Thomson defeated No. 77 Miguel Perez Pena of Georgia 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, earning his third ranked win of the 2024 campaign. Senior No. 25 Filippo Moroni also defeated a ranked foe, as he earned a straight-set win over No. 68 Thomas Paulsell in the top slot.
Of note, freshman Luca Pow improved to 11-2 in dual singles action to start his collegiate career. Additionally, Pow is currently on a five-match winning streak in singles.

Virginia Tech has opened the 2024 campaign with a 7-1 record. The Hokies are unbeaten at home (7-0), including victories over Georgetown and Charlotte. Of note, Virginia Tech has defeated their last two opponents by a combined score of 14-0.

The Demon Deacons own a 31-14 ledger against the Hokies all-time. Wake Forest hasn't lost to Virginia Tech since 2014.
