
Deacs Go Undefeated on First Day of Therese Hession Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The Wake Forest women's golf team defeated Georgetown 5-0 in the first round of match play and San Jose State 3.5-1.5 in the second round at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge.
After the event got pushed up a day and the format switched from stroke play to match play, Wake Forest has gone 2-0 and will face South Carolina Sunday in the third round of match play. Sunday's third round will begin with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. ET.
In the first match, Carolina Chacarra got the first point for Wake, defeating her Georgetown opponent 6&5 on the 13th hole. Freshman Brooke Rivers was the second point, winning her match 6&4 on the 14th. Freshman Macy Pate earned the match-winning point for the Deacs 4&3 on the 15th.
Rachel Kuehn and Mimi Rhodes also won their matches, 4&3 and 4&2, respectively.
The second match against San Jose State was called as it stood due to darkness around 8:30 ET. Kuehn and Pate both won their matches, 3&2 and 2&1, to go up 2-0-3 against the Spartans with three matches tied at the time of darkness. Each tied match is worth half a point for each team so Wake Forest won the match, 3.5-1.5.
