PALOS VERDES, Calif. - On the second day of play and the third round of match play, the Wake Forest women's golf team fell 4-1 to South Carolina. Freshman Macy Pate was the lone Deac to get a point on the board, winning her match 2&1.
Rachel Kuehn and Carolina Chacarra each fought to the end of their matches, with both falling narrowly 2&1. Chacarra was tied at the turn and fought back to one down after 16 holes. Kuehn was three down at the turn and also made a comeback run before falling on her second to last hole.
Mimi Rhodes made the turn one down but dropped three different holes before losing the match 4&2. Brooke Rivers fought back from four down at the turn to get to two down on the 13th, but also dropped three holes to fall in her match, 5&4.
A fourth round was scheduled for Monday morning, but after being pushed back due to weather, the round was ultimately canceled and the event concluded. The Deacs finished fourth behind South Carolina (1), Texas (2) and Florida (3). The winner and place finishes were determined by an aggregate total of holes won in each match by each team.
Wake Forest did win the Regional Challenge portion of the event and will return in the spring of 2025.
