Meisel Leads Deacs on Final Day of Louisiana Classics

3/12/2024 6:07:00 PM | Men's Golf

LAFAYETTE, LA- The Wake Forest men's golf team finished the Louisiana Classics with a final score of 861 (-3) and ended in fourth place. Wake Forest's B Team ended in eighth place with a final score of 872 (+8).

This is the third consecutive top-four finish for the Demon Deacons.

Junior Marshall Meisel led the Deacs in the Louisiana Classics, tying for seventh overall and scoring 4-under (212). In rounds one and two, Meisel ended tied for tenth on the individual leaderboard at 3-under-par through 36 holes.

Helping Wake Forest post a strong final round was senior Daniel Sheedy. He carded one of the two under-par rounds for the Deacs on Tuesday, posting a third-round score of 71 (-1). His four birdies on the day were second on the team, trailing just Meisel who had five birdies in the final round.

Clay Stirsman, who competed for Wake Forest's B Team, posted two under-par rounds on the first day. Stirsman made three consecutive birdies on the back nine, and leads the Deacs, tying for fifth at the end of day one. At the end of round three, Stirsman finished T15 and ended the week even par (216).

From Coach Haas
"I'd love to thank the Ragin' Cajuns for having all 10 of the Demon Deacons in town in Lafayette, Louisiana. Great golf course with wonderful history, with Lionel and Jay Hebert. Got off to a fast start today, but couldn't hold it together at the end and I know the guys are disappointed in fourth place finish. We will continue to work at it. Coach Aaron and I are each seeing improvements and really happy with the progress they're making, and will continue to make. Let's go Demon Deacons."

Next Up

The Deacs will head to Palm City, Florida on March 11 and 12 for the Valspar Collegiate, hosted by the University of Houston.
